The private services you can offer to patients who are registered at your practice are laid out in the GMS contract. There are several services which you are able to offer for a charge. These include all services that you would treat within an NHS context but also stretches to services not covered by the NHS primary care contract such as cosmetic minor surgery.
There are a number of services you can offer to your private patients. These include:
Popular services to offer at private GP practices include health screening or annual medicals. Many private patients like to keep up to date with their health and ensure there are no underlying conditions that they might not be aware of.
Many private clinics also have a sexual health provision, offering discreet prevention, testing and treatment for a range of sexual health concerns.
You may also want to consider offering travel medicals for those who require a medical check for a visa, overseas employment or overseas education. Offering a vaccination service is also very popular at private clinics.
Some private clinics are also offering minor cosmetic treatments such as anti-ageing injections. Having a medically trained professional conducting these treatments in an approved safe setting is something many patients are looking for.
Many private GP practices find the processes around booking, invoicing, collecting fees and issuing receipts (which is stipulated in the regulations) arduous and time consuming.
There are many ways in which you can automate this process which makes it more efficient and easier.
There are systems such as Hero Health which allow you to do this and also works with NHS software providers. View our ‘system and suppliers’ section to learn more about the systems you can use to run your private practice.
