Cookies policy
What cookies we use, why, and how to change your choice at any time.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage, work in the same way. In this policy, “cookies” covers both.
How we use cookies
We use one strictly necessary cookie to remember your cookie choice. Everything else is optional: we only use analytics cookies if you choose “Accept analytics” or switch analytics on in Cookie settings. Until then, the site doesn’t load PostHog or Google Analytics at all, and nothing is sent to them.
Analytics tell us which pages are read, how people find the site and which links they follow, so we can improve our guides. We don’t use advertising cookies, and we don’t use analytics to identify you personally.
The cookies we set
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Type | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
pgf_consent | The Private GP Forum | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we can respect your choice. | Strictly necessary | 6 months |
ph_<project key>_posthog | PostHog | Gives your browser a random ID so we can count visits and see which pages and links are used. The same data is also kept in your browser’s local storage. | Analytics (only with consent) | 1 year |
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one browser from another so Google Analytics can count visitors. | Analytics (only with consent) | 2 years |
_ga_<container ID> | Google Analytics | Keeps track of your current visit (session) for Google Analytics. | Analytics (only with consent) | 2 years |
All of these are first-party cookies, set on theprivategpforum.co.uk. PostHog stores its data in the EU. Google may process Google Analytics data outside the UK, including in the United States. Our privacy policy explains the safeguards we rely on. Durations are the maximum: most analytics cookies are refreshed each time you visit.
Links to other websites, such as the tools in our systems directory, lead to sites with their own cookie policies. Links to products may carry tracking parameters in the address (for example “utm_source=privategpforum”) so those sites know the visit came from us. These are not cookies.
Change your cookie settings
You can change your choice at any time. Use the button below, or “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. If you switch analytics off, we delete the analytics cookies from your browser straight away.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we don’t run analytics even if you accept them.
